Christmas time!!!

Well just a small update on what's been happening up here in the far north, hopefully you all got loads of hobby related presents and are enthused for the new year ahead!

I have been doing a bit of work on my First Carlist War project with a 16 man Isabelina unit done and 2 guns and crews for them done also, two line squadrons of cavalry and another four units of infantry on the bench awaiting their turn but they may have to wait their turn as another project hits the table!

I have had a load of Old Glory 10mm Prussians for the SYW primed and read for months but have not done anymore than that but I feel it is time to get this project on the go and so they have jumped up the queue and come away from the pile of shame!!

I'm not going to make any resolutions or promises for the coming year as I know only too well that the butterfly will take me to who knows where!!

More Christmas goodies

Here are a couple of more purchases for my old school ECW project, under the Christmas tree for opening on the day itself.  A nicely painted squadron of horse and a regiment of shot with command and a couple of extra pikemen by the look of it, all Hinchliffe and bar from a bit of tidying up they should be good to go. The shot may need to be gloss varnished by the look of the picture but that's easily enough to do.

I should have enough now for three or four pike and shot regiments and the first of the cavalry, all in all a good start to my project and something to look forward to when the big day arrives!!

Latest purchase

Bought this little lot of ebay, and very happy I am with them. I have a load of Empress lovely ECW figures but really fancy doing some "old school" style gaming for this period. Hinchliffe figures were the first metal ones I ever bought so this is the way I am going.  They look to be painted decently and bar some tidying up they will do as is.

Watching another couple of items on ebay that finish early next week so fingers crossed I will get them as well.  The ones I won cost £14.99 plus postage so pretty decent haul for that money.

A weeks work

Well it has been a week of work for me and it has been pretty productive. On real life issues, the boiler got it's annual service and I got my flu and covid shots, so that was about it for real duty!  On to hobby time, due to some rather dreich  weather I could indulge myself without any guilt about not pottering about in the garden!!

My weeks work has seen me batter on with my Continental infantry units, I finished off one 16 man hunting shirt unit, one 12 man hunting shirt unit and one 16 man red face blue unit. Also very nearly finished is a white faced blue coated unit and another 12 man in hunting shirts.  This will leave another two 16 man units, one in brown coats white faced and one in blue with buff, this will give me 10 units, six 16 men units and four 12 men units. This will leave two more units of militia to do, both probably 12 me units. Once the infantry is all done I will have a couple of cavalry squadrons, a couple of guns and crews and then a command stand and this army will be all done and dusted.

Off course that leaves the Brits and allies to do, but that is a whole different story!!

Something different!

Something a bit different for me, just purchased a 3D printed unit of Trolls for a new project, 10mm fantasy! I have also just purchased an army pack of Khmer from Irregular Miniatures, 100 piece army for £21 including postage, to turn out as a sort of fantasy Asian contingent.  I am going to add some more 3D units as I go, first being some Hobgoblin cavalry and infantry, with the Trolls they should give the Khmer a decent go!!

Saturday morning work!

A change of pace today and a change of project, the First Carlist War stuff put to one side and the old Garrison SYW miniatures out on the table.  I purchased a load of Garrison SYW figures from Count Belisarius from the Fife & Drum forum, an absolute pile of old school goodness!!

I primed a couple of fusilier battalions and some grenadiers that will form part of a converged one. I probably have enough for another fusilier, the rest of the grenadiers and three or four musketeer ones,  This will form the basis of an imagi-nation project that will include some Minifigs and Hinchliffe miniatures.  I got a couple of hussars in this pile of goodies but hopefully I can track down enough for a squadron of them, simple little sculpts but they will look great even with my painting skills!!

Talking of painting, these will be blocked and nothing else then a couple of coats of gloss varnish to add to the old school feel!

I should get back to some more work on them tomorrow, I have primed and added the flesh to faces and hands, some coats done tomorrow I think! When I have some done I will try and get some pictures off them, my picture taking skills are of a very low standard I'm afraid!!

An update!!

Well it was a busy week at work so got very little done hobby wise, purchased some Warfare Williamite cavalry for a future project, building stock at the moment for this one, a slow burner I think!!  Got a sweet deal on some Piedmont infantry from Crann Tara through the the Fife & Drum forum, many thanks Count Belisaurius, this should give me enough infantry for this project, command is ok as well, some cavalry and another gun and crew and this will be complete, just to get them painted!!!

I finished of my Carlist cavalry squadron, based, varnished etc and put away in their case, this means I have painted all the Carlist figures I have, I need another 2 six men cavalry squadrons, a 16 man un-uniformed battalion and another command pack and this side of the project will be complete. All this means that I am now doing the Isabelinos and it is this that occupies my painting desk. I have 5 uniformed battalions in various states of preparation, two guns and crews and a couple of squadrons of cavalry, 3 more battalions to be purchased, all in greatcoat, plus another squadron of cavalry and a command pack which will be enough for this part of the project.  Once this is all done it will be some British Legion units and that will be that.  Still plenty to keep me going in the coming months but I have a plan and seeing progress, be good to keep focussed and keep this one going!! Alway a big problem with me I'm afraid.

Anyway that's it for now, busy week at work coming up so won't get too much done until the weekend.

Too Much Time on my Hands???
