Well recovery goes apace and I have been discharged from oncology and back to the loving arms of ear, nose and throat, which means I am cancer free!! Happy guy indeed, also my taste is coming back slowly and I am eating solids again although mainly savoury as sweet things still taste like sludge especially chocolate, bad news! Anyway I am still signed off work and not due to go back until June so I have a bit of time on my hands, done a few walks and a little bit of weeding in the garden as my stamina is pretty poor at the moment, tire very easily. I went to the football in Inverness to watch a Highland League match, my mate picked me up and we parked up and walked to the ground, watched a very entertaining game and walked back to the car by which I was totally washed out, time I get home and settled I crashed out and slept soundly, still will be working on strength over the next few weeks, so hope it improves.
Anyway with all this time on my hands and with a bit of money to spend due to my bonus from work I have indulged myself a little. I first took advantage of Ist Corps sale, which was a nice 20% of the original price. what did I buy? Well I always fancied doing the Seven Years War in India so bought British and French regulars, some Sepoys for both sides and some Irregulars for both sides, they arrived very quickly and look nice figures, should paint up well even by my standards! Now 1st Corps don;t do cavalry or artillery for this but regulars of each were pretty short in numbers so will probably look at getting some native cavalry and artillery from another source.
The next purchase was still in the sub continent and got me a whole load of Empress Miniatures from their Indian Mutiny range, great figure, so full of character, the have come of ebay and were at a decent price for the quantity, I am short again of cavalry and artillery but will add to them as required.
Also got a couple of books but hopefully I will reign in my temptation to splurge on more goodies, now is the time to get back to some painting and basing as I have a tonne to do. I really fancy doing some Dominion of Frederick the Great games, very abstract set of rules but easy to set up and play and I have pretty much all I need painted and based, you don't need a lot to get into it. I thought about these rules as they are an easy set up and a quick game which suits my health at this time.
Anyway every day sees a little bit more of an improvement and looking forward to getting back to normality, here's a photo of the match from Saturday, why I haven't a job with paparattzi I will never know!! Inverness Clachnacuddin against Fraserburgh, 4-2 to the away side, good game for the last of the season.

Fabulous news! You will be back in action in no time at all. Too bad about chocolate…
ReplyDeleteI have some of 1st Corps’ SYW figures and I really like them. They do paint up well. Nice and chunky too.
Many thanks Jon, I must admit I miss a bit of chocolate especially when my better half indulges herself!! I do like 1st Corps, I have a load of their U.S for the Mexican war so thought I would be safe getting their SYW in India figures.
ReplyDeleteOh! Great news Donnie 👏
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal, great news indeed, weight off my shoulders!
DeleteGreat news, Donnie. Sludge tasting chocolate is a small price to pay, I guess, when there is so much progress being made.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed Richard as you say, and I was told that chocolate and coffee would probably be the last things to come back, I can live with that, small price to pay indeed.
DeleteGreat news Donnie, glad your recovery has gone well. Look forward to seeing the SYW India figures
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Neil, hopefully make a start in them soonish, got a fair bit of stuff to sort out first.
DeleteReally pleased to hear about your improving health mate, but don’t rush things. Heartily approve of the Indian mutiny and SYW stuff which I indulged myself with last year. That’ll keep you busy, and should give some interesting games. I’d be keen to know what rules you settle on for this.
ReplyDeleteThanks JBM, and I am taking things easy, the Indian stuff has always held an interest for me so looking forward to cracking on with them both as for rules, still a bit undecided.
DeleteA couple of interesting projects to keep you going as you recover your strength.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed Peter, plenty to keep me busy.
DeleteFantastic news. Looking forward to hearing your taste buds are fit enough to appreciate a gigantic slab of chocolate!
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt, yes the thing is I am not a big chocolate eater but I am missing it more than anything else!! Something to look forward to though!
DeleteExcellent health news Donnie I am very happy for you and your family!
ReplyDeleteI have some First Corps Blitzkrieg Germans, they are very nice figures
I like the sound of your Frederick the Great rules, I hope you give them a go, it would be great to see you posting a game report!
Many thanks Keith, the rules are a bit abstract but seem to work well giving quick games, a campaign in a couple of hours by the look of it, all orders of battle are given for all the main battles so really will need to give it a go, I reckon I could play it on a 2x2 mat using 28mm figures!
DeleteGreat news, all moving in the right direction. I have been seeing a number of bloggers buying into Empress Miniatures and they look like being top tier sculpts - much to like.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Norm, yes all going well. Empress are really nice figures, I have their ECW, Spanish Civil War and Indian Mutiny ranges and they are lovely figures, good service too.
DeleteThat's fabulous news Donnie, I'm really pleased for you....shame about the chocolate though, but hey ho! Looking forward to see your Clive in India project!!!
ReplyDeleteCheers Ray, much appreciated, aye the chocolate is a shame but it will get there! Happy with the 1st Corps figures, should paint up nicely.
DeleteGlad to hear you are on the mend Donnie!
ReplyDeleteIndia - sadly neglected. There are useful bits in the Wellington in India ranges (Grubby Tanks - Redoubt?) but scale is all over the place with different ranges. I think AW do some (Wellington again!) and Cann Tara sepoys for SYW (both sides).
I have lots of the old FK15 - the period between SYW and Napoleonic is interesting - lots of private armies. I always thought around AWI was an interesting period to look at India - Suffren and all that.
Neil
Thanks Neil, yes India is really neglected and scale i always a problem but could probably get away with it in separate units.Plenty to think about.
DeleteGreat news, probably best on the chocolate front but youll get there! Sub continent conflict sounds great, I really enjoyed reading the Anarchy about it, worth looking ip if you havent read it!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain, and yes maybe not the worst thing not eating chocolate!! The whole India thing is fascinating and the native armies are very colourful, thanks for the tip I haven't read that one.
